Pachamama is a goddess revered by
the indigenous people of the Andes. Pachamama is usually translated as Mother Earth (in Quechua mama = mother / pacha = world).
In Inca mythology, Mama Pacha or Pachamama is a fertility goddess who
presides over planting and harvesting. Since Pachamama is a "good mother", people usually toast to her honor before
every meeting or festivity. This toast is called "challa" and its made almost everyday.
The
Inca understood that the Earth is a living, breathing entity that deserves our love, respect and protection. If more people
saw the Earth as our divine mother than perhaps we would think twice before violating and abusing her for our own selfish
needs.
We need to respect and love this beautiful woman now more than ever. Recycle, consume
less and find new ways to do things that lower our imprint. Let us all toast our divine mother and thank her for this
wonderful world, and commit to living greener, healthier lives.
Speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee.
